The history of mobile photography
The cameras on the phones allow you to make high-quality and beautiful pictures and are able to compete with cameras. Of course, this was not always the case, and the greatest progress in mobile photography has been made in recent years.
The development of mobile phone cameras from 1999 to 2008
How the mobile phone industry has developed, in terms of the quality of the camera in them, we consider in this article.
The appearance of the camera in the phones
The first phone equipped with a camera appeared in Japan as early as 1999. It had the name Sharp J-SH04, and it had a funny camera resolution of 0.1 megapixels today.
In general, initially, the purpose of placing a camera on a cell phone was to provide a multimedia messaging service (MMS) material. And only in 2002, the cameras began to be used for their intended purpose – for shooting. Their resolution has reached 0.3 Mp.
2004-2008 in mobile photography; camera phones
The year 2004 was marked by the long-awaited purchase of solid 1 megapixel resolution by the phones. Then came the leading position in the industry of the Finnish company Nokia.
Nokia 7610 quickly gained recognition and love of users around the world. This happened not only thanks to an innovative camera, but also an interesting design of the phone itself.
At about the same time, the concept of “camera phone” appeared. So called the devices capable of making the best quality pictures.
One of the most prominent camera phones of that period is the Sony Erickson S700 phone. He was also distinguished by an unusual design: the phone resembled a camera.
The next notable model is another brainchild of Nokia: N95. The resolution of his camera was significantly higher than the models of competitors (5 Mp), and the pictures were detailed and vivid.
Leading phone models and their manufacturers. 2008-2010
The first Android smartphone with a camera
The first phone running on the Android operating system and able to shoot, was the device, created by HTC. He had a qwerty keyboard and the romantic name “Dream”. His camera was only three megapixel, but it took great pictures.
Pureview line of phones and their phenomenal camera
While Android phones were trying to gain a foothold in the market, Nokia continued to lead and released quite good smartphones one by one.
The pinnacle of their success was the Pureview lineup, created together with Carl Zeiss. The main unit of this series – Nokia 808 Pureview – had a phenomenal camera resolution: 41 MP!
However, after some time, the phones of this series lost to the Asian manufacturers in the competition and the Apple company, which is gradually gaining popularity. As a result, Nokia continued to supply phones to the market, including those with such technical characteristics as the Pureview series, but the demand for them eventually disappeared.
Apple cell phones
One of the main popularizers of mobile photography is a company with the well-known emblem in the form of an apple. It became popular thanks to its PC, and in 2010 introduced a good smartphone with a 5 megapixel camera.
The interest in these phones was great, and gradually the company took the leading position in the whole world.
Our time: mobile photos and social networks
The need of users for devices with a good camera is largely due to the growing demand for social networks.
In October 2010, a completely new social network for sharing photos appeared. Pretty quickly, she won a huge number of fans, and the phone manufacturers realized that their path to success was phones with advanced mobile photo capabilities.
Nowadays, devices with a camera resolution of 20 megapixels, able to shoot in poor light, in motion, etc., are commonplace.
The flagship phone models are not inferior to semi-professional cameras, and completely swallowed the class of mirrorless devices. They can still be found on the shelves, but the demand for them falls almost every day.
Thus, it is possible to predict that, as long as interest in social networks persists, companies involved in the production of mobile phones will continue to improve their products. And, perhaps, one day they will surpass the quality of shooting even professional devices.
