Under the fashion photography means the direction of photography, which is devoted to the fashion industry. The pictures can be depicted fashion clothing, accessories or other products.
Often these photos are published on the covers of popular publications, for example, Elle, Vogue, Vanity Fair, etc. Gradually fashion photography began to reflect a special atmosphere, promoting a certain way of life.

This area appeared in the first half of the last century, when photographs began to gain popularity. In many ways, the avant-garde art influenced the formation of the genre.
In the 20s of the twentieth century, advertising agencies began to apply photographs instead of the graphics that they used until then. Fashion houses began to capture images of their collections using photos.
During this period, it is worth noting the work of such masters as Adolf de Meier, Edward Steichen, Horst, Cecil Beaton. These photographers used staged photography methods, they marked the beginning of the aesthetics of this genre.
During this period, the first fashion publications. The first were Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar competing with each other. They began to post on their pages images of leading masters. Publications have always reflected the latest fashion trends, from romantic sophistication to defiant extravagance.
1935 was one of the most important periods in the formation of fashion photography. It was then that the “portable” cameras were invented, which gave photographers the opportunity to shoot in any, even the most unexpected places, without standard fixed poses, in unusual angles, etc.
One of the most impressive works in this period was the image of a model by Lisa Fonssagrives, who was swaying on the site of the Eiffel Tower, the author of which was Erwin Blumenfeld.
For the sake of the Second World War, for security reasons, photo models were not removed on the streets. But not all photographers agreed with this position. So Cecil Beaton, one of the most famous masters of the time, presented models in luxurious dresses against the background of the destruction after shelling in the district of London. Beaton was charged with “heartlessness” for these pictures.
The heyday of fashion photography

But there were no unpleasant events: one of the photo shoots of Christian Dior’s models in Montmartre ended in a fight.
