During the last century, documentary and artistic photographs were perceived by representatives of the English-speaking world of art and galleries.
Photographers from America Alfred Stiglitz, Edward Steyhen, John Sharkovski and Edward Weston, throughout life, engaged in the dissemination of photography as a form of visual art.
At first, photographers sought to imitate painting in their works. Later this direction was called picturalism. As an example, we can mention portraits, where photographers, using a weak focus, sought a “romantic look”.
In contrast, the masters Weston, Ansel Adams and others united in the f / 64 community, which distributed a “real” photo taken using a direct focus that was a separate image without trying to imitate something else.
The value of photographs as works of art was lively debated in the artistic environment. Part of the painters is of the opinion that the photographs represent only a mechanical reconstruction of the picture.

The second part of the XIX century is characterized by the spread of photography, reflecting the lives of ordinary people.
The frozen poses in the photographs are a thing of the past, giving way to real life, which made it possible to feel the spirit of the time with the help of sincere feelings and emotions reflected on people’s faces.
The opportunity to capture every moment, led the artists to the idea of observing the ordinary life of others. As a result, they had an overwhelming desire to reflect the moment they liked, no less amazingly than portraits of regal persons.
Many events and inventions had an impact on art, photography became only one of these factors.
