Technical Photography
Technical photograph – a detailed photo image of an object, object or technical apparatus / machine, etc.
Technical photography is necessary when you need to accurately display on the image the shape, size, proportions, as well as the texture of an object. Technical photography has its own tasks, and they differ in many ways from artistic photography. The image should correspond as closely as possible to the real subject.
Technical photo is indispensable in the scientific and technical field, in the development of various parts, in the documentation or as a photographic application to the descriptions of mechanisms. Another such photo finds its use in advertising, catalogs and online stores.
Features of technical photography
An important task of a technical photo is to convey the size of the object being photographed.
In such photography, special photo lenses are used that do not distort the perspective, as well as lighting equipment with the desired color temperature, light-scattering soft boxes. Often resorted to the use of the reference object for comparative photography.
The reference object, as a rule, becomes any well-known object / object. This, for example, and a ruler, and a lighter, and a pencil. Thanks to this object, the object is compared with this object, which leads to an understanding of its true dimensions.
Such technical shooting takes place only in the conditions of a studio / room. The object and objects are photographed on the same background and in the same perspective; the same light pattern is usually applied to all objects.
On the one hand, it may seem that there is nothing difficult in such a shooting, for example, photographing a compressor – it is fixed, does not change, is static. But not everything is so simple in reality.
The process of technical photography
First you need to know why it is necessary to photograph. Most often the photo of this kind is made with an advertising purpose. The item must be sold, which means that the photograph must be done in such a way that it gives the buyer as much information as possible and leaves as few questions as possible after viewing. The photo should immediately demonstrate the specific qualities of the subject. Including show the degree of wear, it is possible to demonstrate the country of origin.
This is usually achieved by means of composition. The subject is placed in the eighty percent of the entire photo. You can not “cut off” the subject, because in this case, the buyer will completely think that they hide from him an important part of the information and possible defects.
The shooting angle is usually about 45 degrees. The exceptions are objects that have neither top nor sides, for example, an oven or a refrigerator.
It is necessary to photograph the front part, on which both the brand name and model are placed, and, if so, the serial number.
To portray a product well – you need to take a lot of pictures, one will not be enough. It is advisable to create several photos and combine them into one image in any graphic editor. Then the buyer will get the most complete picture of the proposed product.
